Electrical and Electronics Department

Mr. Charles Kirui HOD- Electrical and Electronics Engineering department

The Electrical and Electronics Department offers training at three levels namely Artisan ( level 4), Certificate(Level 5) and Diploma(Level 6) The Artisan or level 4 program is a skill intensive course and the trainees are highly competent in practical applications. The certificate or level 5 program includes both theory and practical training. The trainees are capable of interpreting drawings and simple formulas related to the area of specialization. Diploma or Level 6 programs are largely theoretical but with substantial element of practical in key areas. The trainees are capable of carrying out tests, measurements and analysis of data related to the area of training

Diploma Courses (Level 6)

Diploma courses in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Power option and Telecommunication option ) provide trainees with prerequisite skills, knowledge and competences to work as supervisors and technicians both on construction sites and in the Industries.

At the end of the course, the trainers will be able to:

  • Execute duties of a Technician
  • Use trouble shooting techniques to solve electrical & electronics problems
  • Acquire invaluable knowledge on electrical control mechanisms
  • Operate electrical generators and distribution power systems

Craft certificate Programmes (Level 5)

Craft certificate courses are in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Power option and Telecommunication option). Trainees are equipped with skills, knowledge and attitudes that will enable the craftsman to:

  • Effectively perform tasks in electrical installations.
  • Perform electrical maintenance and faulty diagnosis
  • Work in telecommunications and electronics industry.
  • Prepare for further training (career progression)

Artisan Programmes (Level 4)

Artisan in electrical installation programme equips trainees with hands-on skills, knowledge and attitudes that will enable the wireman effectively perform tasks in electrical installations (house wiring and machine installations). Minimum qualification is a mean grade of D- (MINUS) and above in KCSE. To excel with ease in this field(s), science (physics & chemistry) and mathematics techniques are used in solving electrical problems in daily basis. This is a 1-year course.

Mode of Delivery

Mode of delivery is structured course work, workshop and laboratory practical sessions laced with industrial attachments all aimed at enabling the trainees to acquire knowledge, competencies and experiences so as to work in confidence and become self-reliance.
